A Tribute to Our Beloved Amour

October, 1996 - January 14, 2007

Our beloved Black Lab and my best friend, Amour, is now resting peacefully in doggy heaven. She passed away on Sunday morning, January 14, 2007, lying beneath the grapefruit tree, her favorite spot for watching the world go by.

Amour was a very loving, people-oriented dog. She loved kids and was very gentle with them. Despite her wonderful temperament and personality, she was also a very good guard dog. She had a real deep bark that would scare just about anyone if they didn't know her.

Amour was only 9 weeks old when daddy rescued her from the Humane Society in Milwaukee, WI in December of 1996. She was a little black bundle of fur that just loved being around people. She had her ups and downs as a puppy, like chewing through the linoleum in the laundry room and chewing a hole in the living room carpeting. But she soon grew out of her puppy antics and became the wonderful dog she was. Then I came into the picture. And things were never the same after that.

We sometimes called her the misfit lab because she didn't like water, gunshots or any loud noises. She would never have made a good hunting dog, that's for sure. We really had to coax her to go in the pool, even with her black fur in 100 degree weather. She would lay down on the top step of the pool and get her belly wet. That would be about the extent of her swimming.

Blizzy and I will always remember Amour as being a great puppy wrestler. I would run down the hallway, run back and run right into her. Then we would roll around on the floor and just have a grand time. The best times that I will remember with Amour was when we still lived in Wisconsin. We lived in a big house on an acre of land and had a huge area to run. In the winter, we used to run in the snow and get just caked with ice. The best part about that was coming in the house, crashing down the doggy gate and jumping up on mommy and daddy's bed all icy and wet. They just loved that.

I came to live with Amour when I was only 8 weeks old. She didn't take too kindly to me at first. She definitely did not like me eating and drinking from her bowls. But eventually she warmed up to me and we became best friends. When mommy and me would go down on weekends to visit daddy and Amour, I knew exactly where we were when we turned on the road to their house. I would get so excited and have my paws on the dash just waiting. And Amour knew our truck. As soon as she would see it, she would get all excited and couldn't wait to get out of the house to greet me. We couldn't wait to play with each other. And when mommy and daddy finally got together for good, that meant Amour and I were together all the time, too.

After we moved out to California in 1999, we got a house with a pool. Boy, that sure was a difference from the cold and snow from Wisconsin. Amour loved to just wander around in our backyard and bask in the warm, California sun. She loved to chase squirrels, although I don't know what she would do if she ever caught one. Her and birds never got along either. They liked to dive-bomb her, especially when they had babies in the tree. But she definitely kept our backyard free of anything so Blizzy and I always knew we were always safe back there.

Amour is gone now, but she will live in our hearts and memories forever. She was a very loving dog and a wonderful companion. Mommy and daddy miss her a lot and so do Blizzy and I. She was daddy's first dog and will never be forgotten by any of us.

The Rainbow Bridge

"There's a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge is a verdant land of meadows, hills, and valleys with lush green grass.

When a beloved pet passes, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. Old and ill and frail animals are made whole. They play all day with each other in the beautiful sunshine.

They are happy and content, but there is one thing missing. They are not with their special person who loved them on Earth. So, each day, they run and play until the day comes when suddenly, one stops playing and looks up! The nose twitches! The eyes are staring! And this one suddenly runs from the group!

You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you take him or her into your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again, and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated...."
